002. Middles

They eat lunch together everyday, seated in blue plastic chairs that scrape against linoleum floors and this place looks much more like a hospital than a movie set. He always sits across from her, the toes of her sneakers sometimes grazing against his - accidentally, of course. His eyes follow her laugh, memorizing those small folds that appear around her eyes when she grins and he can see all of her teeth.

Her small, delicate fingers flutter anxiously around the ever-present Oreos as she twists off the top wafer, ridding it of the sandwiched cream. An eyebrow is quirked at her and she laughs and there are the creases as she rambles on about what it's really made of, horror tales that he doesn't really hear. All he can think is that maybe he takes the bad out of everything, even him.

067. Snow

Snow gathered on the windowsills, the moon reflecting light off of it sneakily but the room inside held no chilliness whatsoever. The mingling sounds of varied conversations reached her ears gently, as softly as the small, differentiated snowflakes fell onto those already waiting for them. Ashley and Corbin were debating something in the corner, Monique and Kenny chatting merrily about something - Lucas was occupying Zac's presence, and when his eyes met hers, she grinned softly. Never before had she belonged so much, like the snowflakes resting outside. They expected and enjoyed each other's company, covering each other, holding one another up. Community.

But now it was eight o'clock and her breath was getting short because this was it, this was big. Couches were soon filled, their cushions sagging under the weight of the actors, directors, family that occupied them. He was next to her, his hair perfect and his teeth shining as a smile lit up his face and she memorized the moment because he had to know how this felt, seeing herself starring on television for the first time. The channel was already set and she watched as 'An Original Disney Channel Movie' crossed the screen. And...there. There was her name, and she buried her face in his waiting, broad shoulder with a laugh because it said Vanessa Anne Hudgens and that couldn't possibly be her.

And as the movie started, she felt something warm cover her hand and it was his and his fingers twisted around hers discreetly, quietly. Sure, no two snowflakes were alike, but maybe each could find one that they fit with. And she watched herself talking, laughing and she was falling towards the ground, weightless, and he was there to catch her.
